PRESIDENT STUART 2020/21

VIRTUAL MEETINGS

During the restriction of Covid-19 the Rotary Club of Stafford has been holding virtual meetings using the Zoom system.

The majority of the members are able to take part and those who can’t are being sent minutes of the meetings to keep them in touch.

Our club almoner Geoff Mackenzie is keeping in touch by telephone with our less able members who are unable to get out due to the restrictions.

Our club newsletter is sent to members online and gives full details of the clubs activities.

If members from other clubs would like to join us contact our secretary Karen for contact instructions.

PAUL HARRIS

Paul Harris founded the Rotary International movement in Chicago in 1905 and in his honour members of clubs around the world are rewarded for their services with A PHF award from the international President.

Our club president nominates members to receive the honour each year and in 2019-2020 Gaurang Dave nominated Steve Turner, Gwynn Williams and Peter Rigg.

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions the presentations could not be carried out at the usual club meeting.

Stuart Perren, from Eccleshall is a life long motor sport enthusiast, and together with his wife Helen, have competed in Autotests and Trials for many years.

Stuart, a retired motor engineer and current President of The Rotary Club of Stafford, has, over the last two years completed a total restoration of a Sporting Trials car, including many modifications and improvements.

The object of Sporting Trials is to climb very steep, and often very muddy hills marked out in fields and woodland. Points are scored depending on how far the driver and a passenger can climb up the hill. The passenger helps the driver by navigating the route and bouncing up and down to provide moving ballast!

The colour scheme for the car supports one of Rotary international campaigns to eradicate Polio worldwide.  The ‘Purple for Polio’ livery aims to raise awareness of the campaign and help raise funds to continue the funding of immunisation programmes For children in countries with limited healthcare. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation supports the campaign and for every $1 raised by Rotary, the Foundation donates $1.’
